Subtle Signs You May Have Binge Eating Disorder And Need Counseling

Blog

A binge eating disorder is not something that happens overnight and can often begin in subtle ways. These early signs that lead to binge eating can be so minimal at first that you may not recognize them as a problem. Knowing how to recognize the signs can help you seek counseling before your condition spirals out of control.

You think about food all the time

It is normal to think about what you may fix for dinner or what menus you want to make for your family for the upcoming week. However, if you find yourself fixated on food consistently, you may have a problem. People who struggle with binge eating disorders often find they think about food nonstop or find they are focused on what they are going to eat for lunch as soon as they finish breakfast.

You always give in to food cravings

For people who do not have a binge eating disorder, treating themselves to a favorite food is something they do on occasion. For binge eaters, giving in to food cravings is often a daily occurrence. If you find it impossible to deny your cravings for specific foods, you may have the beginning of a binge eating disorder.

You are experiencing financial issues

One of the things binge eaters find is how much their addiction to food affects their monthly budget. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, it may be helpful to look at your bank statement to see how much of your budget is being spent at the grocery store or on eating out. If you find you are making impulse purchases that are wrecking your monthly budget, it may be time to seek counseling.

You eat in secret

One of the key signs of a food binge eating disorder is eating in secret. Do you often find you are eating after your family goes to bed or when you are home alone? Do you only eat certain foods, such as sweets or large portions of food when nobody is around to see you?

Getting counseling for a binge eating disorder before it gets of out control is important. The key is to address subtle signs that you may have a problem before it escalates and becomes more difficult to treat. Once you know what to look for, you can analyze your eating habits to see if there are any red flags that mean your eating is becoming unhealthy.
